About this bottle

Tequila Gran Dovejo Blanco High Proof is the elevated proof (98 proof) iteration of the company's blanco tequila. Gran Dovejo produces exclusively single-estate tequilas from its location in Jalisco's Los Altos region. A fifth-generation grower cultivates the agave plants. Harvested by hand, the piñas, or agave hearts, are roasted in clay ovens for 36 hours. The piñas are then shredded, their juices extracted, fermented, and double distilled in copper alembic stills. Bottling occurs immediately after distillation.

Rating: 17/23 I'm uncertain about the alcohol content, as anything over 40% ABV is considered strong for tequila. Nose: Pungent, earthy, briny, with a subtle salty mineral quality and a faint floral scent like dusty paper. Dijon mustard is immediately apparent. Beneath that, there's a richness from cooked agave and general earthiness with herbal notes. Green peppercorn is also present. The aroma is very appealing, though not particularly sweet, if that's what you seek. Palate: Quite thick and impactful. It's slick and spicy (black pepper) with prominent mintiness. I estimate it's around 48% ABV. Beyond the initial tastes, there are hints of other herbal bitterness and some caramelized agave blended in. The complexity increases with each sip. It's full-bodied with good balance, though I wish the flavors were more distinct. There's less brine than anticipated, but some is present, along with green olive bitterness and a hint of minerality. Occasional tropical notes in the pineapple-mango-banana range and a dusty papery note at times. Finish: Still has an oily bitterness, sharp spice, mint, and caramelized agave. Faint hints of green peppercorn. Conclusion: This is a superb tequila. It would function well as a mixer or a very good sipper. Its body and flavor execution are far superior to most tequilas I've sampled. I believe this is at least a 16, potentially as high as a 19. It surpasses Cabeza and is highly competitive with Fortaleza. Specifically, I find it slightly better than Fortaleza Blanco and Fortaleza Blanco Still Strength, but not significantly. This rules out the 16 and 19 ratings, placing it at a 17 or 18. I consider Fortaleza Reposado to be slightly superior, though again, not by much. Currently, I find its quality comparable to Fortaleza Blanco and Fortaleza Blanco Still Strength, thus earning a 17. Thank you to a friend for the sample!

Perfectly clear. It smells of damp paper, cooked agave, rocks, salt, jalapeño, green pepper, lime, and concrete. A lively mix of pyrazines and manufactured scents. On the tongue, it's rich and smooth, suggesting some time spent in a tank. Hints of banana, chocolate, pineapple, blueberry, orange, and confectioners' sugar appear. However, these are quickly removed by a harsh, stunning, and very dry end, with rocky salts, black pepper, and white pepper. This tequila is exclusively for devoted fans. Still, I suggest everyone give it a taste. It is undeniably an outstanding tequila. Just exceedingly dry. I love it myself. However, it's hard to market nowadays.

Wow! Fantastic. The nose is earthy with agave and fruit notes, plus a touch of minerality. Butter floods the palate, followed by sweet agave and a whisper of almonds. The finish echoes with agave and almond. It lacks burn, but a distinct warmth is present throughout. The price is justified, and I strongly endorse it.

Clean, earthy scent. Agave and earthiness on the palate. A strong alcoholic finish with a noticeable kick.
