Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and how to reach us.

This Privacy Policy describes how Sip Curator ("we," "us," and "our") collects, uses, and shares your information when you use the website at sipcurator.com and the Sip Curator mobile app (together, the "Service").

By using the Service, you consent to the practices described here. Your use of the Service is also governed by our Terms of Service. You can request a copy of this policy, or ask us anything about it, through our support page.

Age requirement

The Service is for people of legal drinking age only. If you are in the United States you must be at least 21 to use it; elsewhere you must be at least the legal drinking age where you live, and never younger than 18. We do not direct the Service or any of our marketing to anyone below that age.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the legal drinking age that applies to them, and we never knowingly collect it from children. If we learn that we have, we will delete it and close the account. If you believe an underage person has given us information, contact us through our support page and we will remove it promptly.

Information you give us

  • Account details. Your name, email address, and password. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from that provider — never your password.
  • What you save. Bottles on your shelf or in your collection, ratings and tasting notes you write, comparisons, and taste-finder answers.
  • Photos you scan. If you use label or shelf scanning, the photo you submit is processed so we can identify the bottles in it. We store the scan and its results so you can return to them.
  • Support messages. The name, email address, subject, and message you send through our support form, so we can reply.
  • Payment details. If we ever charge for a feature, payment is handled by our payment processor. We receive a customer reference and the status of the transaction. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Email preferences. Whether you have opted in to marketing email, and whether you later unsubscribe.

Providing this information is up to you. You can browse most of the catalog without an account. If you choose not to provide something, we may not be able to offer the related feature.

Information we collect automatically

  • IP address, and the approximate city, region, and country we derive from it
  • Browser type and language, operating system, device type, and device identifiers
  • Pages and bottles you view, searches you run, filters you apply, links you click, and the time and date of your visit
  • The site that referred you, and any marketing campaign parameters in the link you arrived on
  • Error and crash diagnostics

If you are signed in, we may associate this activity with your account so the Service can remember your preferences and improve what it shows you. If you are not signed in, we treat it as pseudonymous.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, run A/B tests on page layouts, and measure how the Service is used. Session cookies disappear when you close your browser; others persist so you are not asked the same things twice. Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can change your settings to decline them or to warn you first. If you decline, parts of the Service may not work.

We also use industry-standard web analytics, and our email may contain small images ("web beacons") that tell us whether a message was opened. Our support form uses Google reCAPTCHA to block automated spam, which collects device and usage data under Google's own privacy policy.

How we use your information

  • To operate the Service, sign you in, and keep your shelf, ratings, and scans available to you
  • To identify bottles in photos you submit to the scanner and return the results
  • To personalize what you see, including recommendations and taste matching
  • To answer your support requests
  • To send you service and account email, and marketing email if you agreed to it
  • To measure and improve the catalog and features, using aggregated data such as popular searches and bottles
  • To detect, prevent, and investigate spam, fraud, abuse, and security incidents
  • To comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

Nothing in this policy limits what we may do with information that has been aggregated or de-identified so that it is no longer associated with an identifiable person.

Marketing email and your consent

By submitting your email address and opting in, you consent to receive email from us at that address, which may include information about the Service, new features, and related offerings. Consenting is never a condition of using the Service or of buying anything.

Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw your consent at any time by using it or by contacting us through our support page. We will act on an opt-out request within 10 business days. We may still send you transactional messages about your account, such as password resets and support replies. How often you hear from us varies with your activity and preferences. You confirm that you meet our age requirement, that the address is yours or that you are authorized to use it, and that you will tell us if it changes hands.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers for their own marketing.

Service providers. We share information with companies that operate parts of the Service on our behalf: hosting and content delivery, image processing and label recognition, analytics and error monitoring, email delivery, payment processing, and spam prevention. They may use it only to perform that work for us, and their handling of it may also be governed by their own privacy policies.

Legal reasons. We may disclose information if we reasonably believe the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Sip Curator, our users, or the public.

Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will require the recipient to honor this policy or give you notice of any material change. We cannot make representations about the handling of your information in a bankruptcy, receivership, or similar proceeding.

We may also share information with your permission or at your direction.

Security

We use technical, administrative, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. Passwords are stored hashed, and traffic to the Service is encrypted in transit.

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential, for signing out on shared devices, and for telling us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use of your account. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee that information transmitted over the internet is free from interception, delay, or error.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward only as required to meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. If you close your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period. Aggregated and de-identified data may be kept indefinitely. Steps, timing, and what we delete or keep are on our account deletion page.

Your choices and rights

You can review and update most of your information by signing in to your account. You can delete your account from the Sip Curator app or through our account deletion page. You can also ask us, through our support page, to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to stop using it for a purpose you did not originally authorize. We may need to verify your identity first, and some uses cannot be opted out of while you continue to use the Service — for example, processing needed to keep your account working.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, including the right to a copy of your data and the right to object to certain processing. Ask us and we will honor whatever applies to you.

California residents

We do not sell personal information, and we have not sold or shared it for cross-context behavioral advertising in the preceding twelve months. California residents may request the categories of personal information we collected about them, the purposes for collecting it, the categories of third parties we disclosed it to, and a copy of that information, and may request deletion or correction. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

Under California's "Shine the Light" law, California residents may also request, once a calendar year, information about personal information we shared with other businesses for their own direct marketing. To make any of these requests, send a message through our support page with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line.

Links to other sites

The Service links to other sites, including retailers and review sources. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, security, or privacy practices. Review their policies before giving them your information.

International users

We operate in the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. By using the Service you consent to that transfer and processing.

"Do Not Track" signals

Your browser may be able to send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no common industry standard for how to interpret it, and like most websites we currently do not change our practices in response to one.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. Changes take effect when we post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date below, so please review it periodically. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy. If you would rather not accept a future change, tell us in writing through our support page; the opt-out takes effect 10 days after we receive it, and your prior version continues to govern until then.

Governing law

This Privacy Policy, and any dispute arising between you and Sip Curator or its affiliates, are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
