Don Fulano Fuerte Tequila

We're exploring blanco tequilas straight up today. These were evaluated to find the best for making summer tequila martinis. The lineup included Don Fulano, G4, Siete Leguas, and our regular Olmeca Altos. The Olmeca presented sweet, mild vegetal, and vanilla scents. Siete Leguas offered a more intense aroma with noticeable cooked agave. G4 was less potent than Siete Leguas but included some spicy notes. Don Fulano smelled clean and sweet, possibly the most subtle. On the palate, Olmeca is a solid tequila. Subtle black pepper, cooked agave, powdered sugar, and leafy green characteristics create an engaging pour without harshness. It's a fantastic value tequila we purchase in large bottles. Siete Leguas provided much richer flavor than Olmeca, with a fuller, oilier texture, abundant black pepper, cooked agave, and cactus notes. G4 was smoother (a word I dislike using but it fits) and perhaps more complex. An excellent sipper! Gentle on the palate and pleasing in its finish. Don Fulano offered a hint of licorice (reminiscent of Good'n'Plenty), an intriguing funkiness, the essential agave, and a bit more heat. This is anticipated given its higher proof (100 vs. 80), but the alcohol isn't apparent. Smooth and rich are accurate descriptions. Both my wife and I favor Siete Leguas for a tequila martini. A friend also prefers it neat. My wife noted G4 had a stronger finish with some oily, diesel-like notes. She ranked Olmeca second and found the higher proof and funkiness of Don Fulano unappealing. I agree about Siete Leguas in a tequila martini, but I really enjoy the funkiness and robust character of Don Fulano when sipped neat. It's my top choice, with Siete Leguas second, and Olmeca and G4 tied. This next point is significant because G4 costs almost double Olmeca, making this particular expression unlikely for future purchases. That said, it is genuinely quite good. So, about this tequila martini? It's a 2:1 ratio of tequila to MARTINI & ROSSI Bianco Italian vermouth, which we find very affordable and enjoyable. I'm curious about trying Carpano to see if the higher price yields more flavor, though I doubt it. Dolin Blanc definitely didn't achieve the desired results in this cocktail. Combine the mentioned ingredients in a mixing glass with ice and a couple of dashes of orange, lemon, or lime bitters (or none, as my wife prefers). Strain and serve over a large ice cube (like an Old Fashioned for my whiskey-loving friends) or, even better, over a large cube of pressed coconut water, as insisted upon by a friend. Yes, it's as delicious as it sounds and is sure to be a remedy for what troubles you. Cheers!

The nose clearly shows the higher alcohol content, but it leads into delightfully clean pepper and vegetal notes, hinting at the palate. The flavor is fresh and crisp, openly showcasing its agave character alongside the pleasant burn from the 100 proof. The finish has citrus and cactus flower as the heat fades. Superb.

Wow, delicious! Maple, mango, sweet pineapple, hot cocoa, and smooth caramel come through, then medicinal notes and cinnamon, finishing with chocolate and praline! This is my best tequila yet!
