Raymond Ragnaud Selection Cognac

Nose: A subtle, lightly fruity, delicate aroma of oolong tea, faint jasmine, and sultanas gradually reveals deeper apricot and dried fig notes as it airs. Sauternes, stewed pear, peaches, honey, a touch of marzipan, and woody scents emerge over time. It's a captivating aroma that grows richer and deeper while maintaining its clean, smooth quality. Palate: A sweet, light initial taste features stone fruits (nectarine, apricot, peach) with a slight white pepper and tannin spice on the sides of the mouth. Very clean and bright, with hints of vanilla and wood. A floral, nectar-like honey essence permeates the palate, and the texture, while light, is satisfying and inviting. Finish: Medium length. Semi-sweet fruity notes transition into a very mild oak aftertaste with a faint bitter orange character. This is a lively and appealing young cognac. Aged for 4 years (making it a VS), it's the opposite of dark and often overly aged spirits. The profile leans sweet but is balanced by bright acidity throughout. It shares similarities with a riesling. It's enjoyable for sipping and works in cocktails, but it's easily overpowered by less delicate flavors, so use it in subtle mixed drinks. A light honey presence and soft fruitiness run through it, surprisingly reminiscent of Highland Park. It's made exclusively from Grande Champagne grapes from the Ragnaud family's 47-hectare estate, initially aged in new Limousin oak before being transferred to older barrels. It's a great example that a young cognac needs no apologies. This is a good cognac and is fairly priced. “Good”: 84/100 (3.75 stars)

Flavors of figs, prunes, orange zest, apricot, tobacco, and very subtle toffee. This is among the sweeter cognacs I've sampled (and I haven't tried many).
