What a fantastic cognac. Quite distinctive, with its seaside notes that bring to mind a coastal scotch. The aroma is full of sea salt and mint. The initial taste is salted caramel and ripe tree fruits. While I'm not a cognac expert, this is undoubtedly the finest I've sampled.

About this bottle
Augier Cognacs, which have been making eaux-de-vie since 1643, have launched a reboot of their non-age statement offerings, featuring single growth and single grape varieties. L'Océanique is made from grapes cultivated near the Atlantic Ocean on the Island of Oléron, part of the Bois Ordinaires growing region in Cognac. This expression, unique due to its coastal influences, is made solely from ugni blanc grapes. It undergoes a single distillation and is then aged in French oak after spending time on fine lees.

Reminiscent of butterscotch, specifically a buttery Scotch without any smoky elements.
Quite sweet, with only a faint hint of the smoky and salty characteristics of a scotch. Very good.
Evidently from an island. Hints of citrus and possibly some minerals.
Loads of honey on the tongue, with sea salt and Chardonnay notes on the aroma.
Unexpected, the initial aroma is just like a single malt!
