Frederick Watters 4.5

Felt like trying something different, so I opened this sample I'd held onto for a while from TWE. I'm clueless about cognac, beyond knowing it's grape-based and must originate from the Cognac region to bear the name (good job, France, with that monopoly). After an hour of sipping, one thing was abundantly clear: the aroma was absolutely incredible! It was a full-blown assault of jasmine and white grapes. The glass was over a foot away, yet the scent filled the space. Based on aroma alone, it deserves a 6 out of 5 stars. The palate is a step down. The jasmine doesn't carry over, but a woody character emerges. You can sense its age, yet it avoids tasting like raw oak. I paid $10 for a 3cl sample, and it was worth every cent. Since it bypasses the tariffs, I might even consider buying a full bottle.

Excellent spirit with notes of white grapes, blossoms, violets, jasmine, chocolate confections, caramel, barrel spices, bananas, and pineapples.
