MACK by Mackmyra

The aroma presents cereal and malty notes alongside fruity, almost floral scents. I detect green apple, pears, and hints of grapefruit, supported by raw oats and cornflakes. It's a fragrant whisky, and I appreciate it. The taste mirrors the aroma, most prominently featuring green apples, grapefruit, and raw malty oats. The finish is medium-short, with grapefruit bitterness and just a trace of milk chocolate before fading. This whisky is presented as a casual sipper or mixer, meant to substitute for blended varieties. However, I believe it deserves more recognition. While it lacks complexity and isn't a flavor explosion, it's a genuinely pleasant, straightforward single malt whisky that's distinctly superior to your typical blends. It bears a resemblance to a personal favorite among more affordable single malts, Old Pulteney 12, although the latter offers slightly more flavor and character. I rate this Mack a 3.0. Considering the price, I would lean towards the OP12 (the cost difference is minor where I am), but both represent excellent upgrades from any average blend and are certainly worth the small additional expense.

Nose: Sweet, caramel, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream. There are notes of children's candy and orchard fruit. Palate: Fruit and vanilla are prominent initially. There's citrus, honey, and an unusual banana note. Finish: A short finish with oak, vanilla, and spice. A slightly sour aftertaste. I quite liked this as a dram. It's a bit thin, but overall, it's a respectable, straightforward dram.

Deep amber color. The nose has hints of orange marmalade and vanilla, with notes of berry fruits and candied peel. The sweet finish features sticky toffee pudding and butter fudge. An approachable, pleasant, and very drinkable spirit that reveals more depth and character as you drink it. Quite enjoyable.

Appearance: Gold. Aromas: fruity & vanilla, cherries, Sherry. Taste: peaches & cream, a hint of cereal. Finish: brief and dry, with an oaky end. Slightly malty with a persistent bitterness. It was quite pleasant until the very conclusion. The nose was excellent, but it declined thereafter. Not to my preference.

This seems intended for cocktails, which I don't favor. It has artificial coloring, an odd gummy bear sweetness, a sharp and dull profile, fruity sweetness, and sweet spices like cardamom or ginger. It's young and strange. The bottle looks nice, though.

The aroma features vanilla and ripe pear. It tastes overly sweet and diluted. This isn't quite my kind of whisky; I'll check out the other Mackmyra samples.
