I read that this was highly recommended in Forbes and was fortunate enough to be given this as a gift by my always generous friend. Looking forward to trying it! Nose: Rich in tropical fruits. Pineapple is at the forefront. I also get some mango and peach cobbler here. I'm not getting much spice or other flavors here, but the rich fruit is quite pleasant and reminds me of an Irish whiskey. Palate: This is really fruit-forward initially with more of that peach cobbler flavor. The peach persists into a more oatmeal-like flavor with some brown sugar sprinkled on top. There's a hint of cinnamon and caramel on the tail end. Finish: Medium to long. There's a grainy chewiness that hangs around and lingers for some time. Some subtle black pepper persists, giving a slight bitter ending. Overall this is a good whisky. It's a bit thin on flavor but very rich and enjoyable. However, for the price point, this is absolutely spectacular. I can't think of any other single malt at this price point that could compete. Some blended scotches I would like to compare this to in a similar price range would be Monkey Shoulder and Naked Grouse. Highly recommend!

Found in a local shop - not my usual place - I picked up a small tasting pack with 3x 5cl bottles of Tomatin: Tomatin Legacy, the 12 year old 'Bourbon & Sherry Casks', and a 14 year old 'Port Cask'. I have already sampled and reviewed the last one, so I will only be reviewing the first two. Honestly, as those who regularly read my reviews may have gathered - I generally prefer peaty, smoky whiskies - so I wasn't expecting much - especially not from the NAS 'Legacy'. This is review 1/2 - The 'Tomatin Legacy'. This entry-level Tomatin is not very impressive. The aroma was rather weak, suggesting citrus, and maybe some pine. The taste added some vanilla, and a few peppery notes. The aftertaste was also unremarkable. Overall not a bad whisky, but not special either. I would happily drink it if offered, but would never buy a full bottle myself. 2.5 out of 3 stars... I'll give it 3...

Nose: pleasant and somewhat familiar, excellent blend of perfume, dry spices and thick ripe orchard fruits, very balanced, then it becomes creamy vanilla fudge pudding with very sweet raspberry sauce, a fantastic nose, truly, (is that a hint of peat?) Palate: light yet sophisticated and precise, again nicely balanced and quite spicy almost savory with a rock candy sweetness and sweet pumpkin Finish: intriguing and quite pleasing, becomes even more exciting shortly after and remains quite long with nice spices and wood Conclusion: I really liked this one and was truly surprised (when I revealed the label of this again blindly tasted sample) that it is a Tomatin, what a nice surprise indeed - I must explore this distillery further, because I have only had a few Tomatins that I enjoyed.
