During the holiday season, distinctive bottles make for great presents. The Grand Mayan assortment definitely fits the bill with some of the most attractive glazed and unglazed ceramic containers you'll find in a liquor store. It's priced like a premium or high-end tequila, but does it truly stand out? The aroma has a light sweetness; this isn't an overly sugary tequila, but it possesses a pleasant purity, lacking any sour notes. Like a rested Don Julio, it's clearly unaged and very clean. The sugars present offer hints of mint and some tropical fruit sweetness. Tart and spicy cinnamon flavors are present throughout the mid-palate and finish, which has real character and doesn't simply fade away like many inexpensive white tequilas. It also lacks any off-putting chemical tastes, indicating some effort was put into crafting a better-than-average and intriguing blanco tequila. While I generally favor rested or aged tequilas, I'd say this one is worth the price, falling within the $70-$90 range. The reposado comes in a striking deep blue and gold glazed bottle; either option is attractive enough to both drink and display as art.

While it might seem a bit fancy for a margarita, it made for a truly excellent rocks margarita. Highly recommended.
