About this bottle

According to legend, Napoléon Bonaparte transported several casks of Courvoisier during his exile to St. Helena. This bottling was initially launched in 1910. Courvoisier was the first cognac house to feature Napoléon on its labels, indicating an age between its VSOP and XO expressions, a practice soon adopted by other cognac producers.

While I haven't sampled Cognacs above the XO category, Napoleon was my introduction 43 years ago. It appears less common now but remains my preferred choice for its exceptional richness of flavor.

Jerry Cabral 4.0

Clean, smooth, straightforward, and sweet. It possesses an elegance that doesn't require bold complexity. Something about it elevates it above a standard, harsh offering. A superb dram!

Gregorio Layne

This is a decent cognac, featuring fruity and floral notes on the nose that carry through to the taste. It's moderately dry and somewhat sharp. Perhaps better suited for cocktails?

Nolan Angeles 3.3

Courvoisier Napoleon 80s Nose: Slight alcohol burn, not overly sweet grape, smooth grape juice, sweetness. Taste: Purple hue, spicy, sweet grape pulp. Finish: Sweet sour, slightly bitter. Diluted with a drop of water, it yielded a grape chocolate aroma, raisins within chocolate, a smooth taste, and became slightly more bitter.

Just finished the bottle with a fine Hoyo de Monterey cigar; it was delightful! Smooth and sweet with a wonderful fruit finish... a personal favorite.

Natasha Robles 4.5

Awarded 4.5 stars. Possesses a very rich flavor profile with notes of ginger, prunes, spices, and caramel, but it feels thin on the palate with a weak finish.
