Addison Maurer 4.0

A very well-made Cognac, with lovely flavor balance and richness. It's everything a Cognac should be. However, I'm generally experiencing severe first-world problems lately, feeling quite oversaturated with Cognac. I think the flavor range is relatively limited for me, especially since I've primarily been sampling XO variants. There are three main categories: Poor quality / slightly off flavorings, typically around 3.25 to 3.5. Good solid options, 3.75 to 4, and very few that have an 'x-factor' in terms of flavor, something more special, 4.25. And that's a narrow range, quite similar. That's what I appreciate about whiskey. It truly is the most varied and interesting spirit available. Anyway, back to this Cognac. It's definitely in the good solid offering category at the higher end. A solid 4.

Appearance: a medium to dark mahogany shade. Scent: Initially earthy and woody. Allowing it to rest in the glass yielded a softer, sweeter aroma, reminiscent of dried or candied fruits. Mouthfeel: Smooth. Taste: I perceive a caramel flavor that isn't overpowering, a touch of oak, and a long, sweet finish.
