Writers' Tears Marsala Cask Finish

Nose: Intense aromas of red fruit, both dried and fresh, with red wine notes. Beneath that, it strongly recalls the base Copper Pot whiskey: lemon and bread, coming across as lemon cake or cookies, abundant vanilla, hints of toffee and caramel, perhaps a fleeting touch of chocolate powder, and traces of mint. It's not overly complex, but very appealing. Palate: Red wine, caramel, vanilla, chocolate. It all blends into a sensation akin to bread pudding – rich, intoxicating, substantial, and sweet without being excessive. A slight tang from wood tannins on the sides of the tongue leads to a light to medium spicy finish. The finish is predominantly baking spice, with a little wood present. Again, not too complex, but faultless. I found a single bottle of this on a shelf at one of my regular spots and thought a Marsala finish on any Writer's Tears sounded quite appealing. And it is quite appealing. It's full of flavor, easy to drink, and very enjoyable. I've been reaching for it nightly because it just feels right at the moment. However, the Marsala wood doesn't justify the double price compared to the regular WT Copper Pot. This should be a $50 bottle, not $80. At $50, I would frequently repurchase this (if I could find it). At $80, there are numerous superior options readily available. That said, it's lovely, and I'm on the verge of finishing the bottle in about three weeks, which is considerably faster than usual.
