Writers' Tears Cask Strength (2019 Release)

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2019 Glass: Glencairn (apologies for using it for Irish whiskey) Appearance: vibrant golden amber hue Nose: sweet banana and toffee. Like brown syrup. Palate: The initial impression is the expected sharpness from the 53% ABV, but the alcohol isn't overwhelming. It's quite spicy and metallic at first, but a few drops of water significantly enhance the dram, bringing out complexity and oak. The mouthfeel isn't particularly oily or thick, but distinct buttery notes are noticeable on the tongue. Finish: The mineral and buttery mouthfeel lasts longer than the taste itself. 4/5

The nose presents caramel, berry, and butterscotch. The rich palate has caramel, honey, oak, and stewed apples. It feels thick and oily in the mouth with a slight warmth on the finish. It's certainly the most Scotch-like Irish whiskey I've experienced and one of the most pleasing. I'm not completely certain which bottling I'm tasting, so I've used the most recent one I could find.

Nose: Smells like morning dew and sweet grass. Body: Rich and weighty, with hints of dried fruit, grass, cinnamon, and butterscotch. Finish: Lingers warmly for a medium duration, tasting of caramel apple.

Served over a large ice cube. The aroma offers caramel notes. The taste is a bit intense initially. Great mouthfeel with pleasant oak and some tropical fruit notes. A spicy pepper note marks the finish. Quite enjoyable.

Remarkably rich with flavors of green tea, apricot, and ginger. It's quite warm yet sweet, offering notes of apples, cinnamon, and white chocolate, complemented by hints of sweet cedar and pear. The finish is well-balanced.

It has a slightly woody taste, as I'd anticipate from a scotch, with a heat that corresponds to its alcohol content. Beneath it all lies a truly good, intricate flavor that's present if you seek it out.
