Midleton Very Rare 2016

Finally, this humble whiskey admirer sampled the esteemed Irish Spirit, Midleton Very Rare. Its cost, particularly for an Irish spirit I rarely favor over Scotch, prevented prior tastings, though I've desired to try it for a long time. Midleton Very Rare represents the distillery's most premium annual release, from the same place that crafts Jameson and Redbreast, Irish stalwarts. This assessment pertains to the 2016 bottling. Presented at 40% ABV with a golden hue. The aroma is quite remarkable. Sweet orange, delightful. Spice notes. Zesty, freshly sliced orange. Highly citrusy. Following an initial taste, it evoked chocolate milk, caramel, and refined toffee. The taste upholds an excellent standard. Astonishing notes of orange nectar; Oranges freshly cut; Chocolate and smooth milk. A wonderful finish, slightly grainy with chocolate undertones. An orange essence lingers throughout your throat and mouth. In summary, this is a pure, precise spirit. It centers on exquisite oranges and chocolate. The finish, while not reaching the heights of the taste and smell, remains a lovely drink. I rate it 88 out of 100. Would I spend 300 euros on a whole bottle? Probably not.

I appreciate this spirit for what it is. It's an accessible, smooth whiskey for special moments that won't intimidate newcomers. It's incredibly well-rounded, but I find the price difficult to justify. Nose: Sweet honey and creamy vanilla. Perhaps a hint of shortbread. Palate: Honey, vanilla, cinnamon, and a gentle spice. Finish: A medium finish with a distinct peppery oak note. Mouthfeel: Neither thick nor thin.

This could easily be mistaken for Jameson. It's harsh to drink and doesn't finish well. I can't suggest it.
