This is a great dram, though it started off a bit potent, which was unexpected for a 40% ABV. The aroma was sweet with fruit scents like orange and possibly pineapple, but I allowed it to rest. After 10-15 minutes, the character changed, revealing more apricot and peaches, reminding me of Bushmills 16. The taste was smoother, and the finish was rich, juicy, and fruitier. In summary, it's a good drink, and it improves with aeration, but I believe Bushmills 16 is a comparable and perhaps more economical choice. I'm seeking out a Red Spot, which I believe is 15 years old, to compare them both.

Fantastically smooth whiskey. I splurged when I was at the distillery and was able to try a glass. I still compare whiskeys to Yellow Spot, and for an extra $30, I don't think it beats it in the dollar-for-dollar comparison. But it is a great whiskey to try if you can.

Devon Colby 4.5

The bouquet offers honey and walnuts; pleasant stone fruit, pear, and fresh walnut flavors; a smooth, buttery texture as expected from an Irish whiskey of this quality; concluded cleanly with green apple and pear.

This is easily the best bottle I've acquired. Someone from Kilbeggan provided me with a sample at France 44 in Minneapolis, and I've been hooked since.

Nice balance, quite an experience. Very attractive packaging with the small gold coin attached to the bottleneck...

Tasted the 15 with a friend in Ireland.
