About this bottle

A combination of triple distilled pot still and small batch grain Irish whiskeys makes up this expression. It matures in both sherry and American oak casks before being placed into an additionally flame charred black barrel. Each of these is a single barrel release bottled at cask strength, with the proof varying per batch.

On the nose: oily and bitter, with vanilla and a bread-like note, very "Jameson-esque." There's a sweet, tart note and a light floral touch. On the palate: warm and harsh. The vanilla and tart note persist, but the biscuit/bread character has vanished. The 60% ABV is certainly noticeable but not overwhelming like Tomatin Cask Strength. The finish is long, metallic, and has a Harlequin candy note that reminds me a bit of The Sexton. Personal note: 90/100 A whisky that makes me a fan of cask strength again. The flavors are distinct, and the high ABV isn't as jarring as a friend had suggested it might be.

Tasted while visiting the Jameson Distillery on Bow Street. Not currently sold in the US. It surpasses the standard Black Barrel in every way. Rich, sweet, and creamy - the aroma is pure dessert. It's remarkably easy to drink despite being 120 proof. Some spice comes through at the end.

This serves as the foundation for our signature “Smokey Old Fashioned.” It's a commendable choice due to its body and aroma, enhanced by the orange garnish. It can also work as a sipping whiskey, but I suggest serving it on ice to bring out the scent and moderate its strength. It has a bit too much sharpness when consumed neat.

The unique aspect of this is that each cask offers a slightly different profile. It's packed with flavor and remarkably smooth. Definitely worth the cost for a cask strength bottle on your shelf.

Haven Horvath 4.0

Very easy to drink, with many layers of flavor. It is smooth yet refined, starting with a hint of smoke that finishes with a pleasant, mild burn.

Earlene Quinlan 3.0

It's a bit too potent for my liking... I need to dilute it slightly to really enjoy it
