It has a noticeable peat presence, but perhaps not in the way you're accustomed to. Canadian peat from the west coast carries earthier notes, akin to mezcal with floral charred elements. A delightful spirit.

About this bottle
Founded in Saanich, Greater Victoria in 2016 by Scottish immigrant Graeme Macaloney, Victoria Caledonian Distillery offers Mac Na Braiche, Gaelic for "son of malt." This spirit is made from Canadian barley and aged for approximately 20 months in a blend of American and European oak. It is subsequently finished in recharred red wine barriques. Note: Despite being produced in Canada, this is not designated Canadian whisky due to aging less than three years.

This was astonishing. The aroma was intensely peaty smoke, yet it's incredibly smooth. It's divine when enjoyed with a fine Cuban cigar.
