This is impressive, especially since it's made entirely from rye. It is certainly full of spice, but a nuttiness and chewiness come through more than the barrel's influence. The substantial mouthfeel invites a moment of reflection on the art of distilling and the skill of the master distiller. Of the three new releases from last year, this might be the best. Despite the high proof (121 ABV), it goes down exceptionally smoothly. A pleasant long finish concludes the experience with a surprising cooling sensation. We look forward to more from this distiller!

About this bottle
This rye expression was distilled in Canada in the style of an American straight rye and matured for a minimum of four years in New York State. Subsequently, it was transferred to Tennessee for final maturation in Uncle Nearest barrels. Victoria Eady Butler, Uncle Nearest's master blender, selected this bottling, which is offered at full proof, though the specific proof may vary with each bottling.
