This rye is quite intriguing—very different from others I've tried, even the Ragtime Rye from the same distillery (likely using similar barrels). The rye grain used is an heirloom variety called Horton, which results in a flavor profile with less stone fruit compared to Ragtime's grain, and it's more bready than dill-like. Its aroma is creamier than a wheated bourbon, and on the palate, it begins with substantial rye spice, then transitions into a flavor that resembles raw marshmallow and peppermint leaf. The finish is exceptionally long, over a minute of tingle and rye spice that only truly intensifies in the final moments. It doesn't taste like rye bread or dill; it's closer to clove and butter. I definitely intend to purchase another bottle, even at $125 per bottle. I will likely also acquire a Select Barrel Ragtime for occasions when I desire more fruitiness and less creaminess.
