Chicken Cock 8 Year Double Oak Kentucky Whiskey

Appearance: Golden honey. Appears lighter than expected for a double oak at 8 years. Aroma: Notes of apples, black pepper, pear, and light vanilla. Taste: Initial light sweetness, with continued apple notes, an almost brandy-like mid-palate, and rye spice on the finish. Overall: My guess is this is a whiskey with a high rye content. It has a solid profile even though it's proofed down. Because of the price and lower proof, its value is diminished, but it's still a pleasant drink.

A light, yet wood-forward aroma with bright high notes. On the palate, the flavors are in the mid-range, with a smooth, easygoing, and mild entry. Notes of roasted corn, honeyed oatmeal, whole wheat toast, and mild fig combine to create a pleasant sweet character. The body is medium, and the finish is fairly long with a touch of mild ginger spice at the end. Overall, this is a very agreeable spirit.

Unsatisfying for a double oak expression. Hardly any oak aroma or taste. Flavors are very faint besides a strong spice. A light whiskey overall. Not worth over $100; one of their least impressive bottlings.

It always happens; by the time I'm near the end of the bottle, it starts to reveal itself. Now, it's dominated by oak, and the profile has mellowed considerably. I need to revisit the benchmark, Woodford Double Oak, to compare.

Very smooth, just lacking in flavor. An okay finish, but not memorable. All things considered, likely not worth the cost.
