Tres Agaves Tequila Reposado

The influence of bourbon and whiskey casks is quite apparent. A strong woody character is present. It's as if their unaged spirit was combined with a bit of something akin to Four Roses or Elijah Craig. Deeper notes begin to surface later on, becoming more noticeable during the extended, evolving finish that seems to last longer than expected for the cost. The tannins cling to the back of your throat long after the subtle alcohol heat disappears. However, it does have one issue... it's not El Tesoro, which presents as more delicate, vibrant, and expertly balanced.

The agave taste is almost entirely absent, but the flavors from the ex-bourbon barrel are prominent. I doubt I would spend $35 on it again; I don't want my tequila to taste like my whisky. It might work as a mixer but I'd rather get a nice blanco with more of the agave notes. Very sweet, a hint of vanilla... if I were to serve this for a blind tasting alongside American or Irish whiskys, you'd struggle to identify it as a tequila.

A worthwhile tequila for its price. The flavors from bourbon cask aging compensate for any lack of body in the tequila. I'll primarily use it for mixing, but it's not bad straight. There's a bit of ethanol harshness, but it's minimal. It also has a decent amount of grassy agave flavor.

It's bitter and sweet with a clear soil taste. It stings a bit as you swallow, but it's nice.

Delightful mild vanilla and cedar, with pepper and fresh herbs; an excellent pour considering the cost.

I've tried their blanco and quite enjoyed it. The reposado is uninspired.
