About this bottle

Distilled by Melly Barajas and her all-female team at NOM 1533 in Valle DeGuadalupe, Jalisco, this tequila uses 100% blue Weber agave harvested between 9 and 10 years old. The agave is steamed for 24 hours and allowed to rest before crushing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. It undergoes a double distillation in steel before an eight-month aging period in lightly charred former American whiskey barrels. Each batch is approximately 12,500 liters and it is bottled at 80 proof.

Neat. Almost completely clear. Faint straw color, barely noticeable unless compared to a clear liquid. The aroma has cooked agave, vegetal notes, black pepper, minerals, a hint of vanilla and oak if you actively search for it. The taste begins with slightly sweet agave, warming black pepper, vegetal notes, faint oak/vanilla/cinnamon and a touch of citrus. Finishes dry with that warm black pepper, some sweetness and subtle vanilla/oak Overall, a delicately wooded and gentle reposado. Perhaps the reposado for blanco enthusiasts. Reserved for sipping only. The flavors would be overpowered in nearly any mixer, and cheaper alternatives exist. Allow it some aeration before tasting, as the wood notes and more subtle flavors are somewhat masked by ethanol in a fresh bottle/pour. It improved significantly after resting. Attractive bottle, naturally. A bit expensive, but worth sampling if you enjoy sipping spirits.

Lorenzo Trujillo 3.5

First pour, allowed to breathe for roughly five minutes. Appears greenish with faint hay tones; the legs are wispy. Notes of recently mown grass and vegetables with a subtle sweetness and vanilla. A potent burst of ethanol is immediate, accompanied by hints of pepper and vanilla. The finish is fleeting, smooth, and vanishes rapidly.

Brice Bacon 4.3

Good value for the price, and the cool bottle is a bonus. It's slightly harsher than some options costing $10-20 more when sipped neat, but I haven't encountered many better in this price range.

Eve Leger 3.8

Starts smooth and fairly sweet, but still finishes with a tequila-like bite that makes it suitable for mixed drinks. Good value for the cost.

Milo Krebs 2.5

I wasn't very fond of this one. It had an initial bite that lingered through the swallow. Medium sweetness, medium heat.

Demetrius Murrell 4.3

A very easy-drinking reposado. Excellent neat or mixed with club soda and lime. It's definitely my go-to tequila for the summer this year!
