From a specific liquor store barrel selection. Having recently finished a bottle of the Reposado, and with Herradura being my preferred tequila, I was pleased this would be my next purchase. I suspect that when stores select barrels, they are sampling options from the second barrel aging, not the first. Given the limited time the spirit spends in the second barrel, I'm confident the flavor profiles wouldn't vary significantly. Noticeably rich color. The orange label was fitting, as I'd describe the color as orange rather than any shade of brown. The scent is nearly identical to the standard Reposado, but more pronounced, especially the salty notes. However, the influence of the wood is at the same subtle level as in the Reposado. Imagine this: you've just enjoyed several street tacos and need to dislodge extra cilantro from your teeth. For some reason, the only available tool is an oak pick soaked in tequila and coated in salt and black pepper. Chew on that for a moment, and that's what this double barrel tastes like. The fresh agave notes and everything else I mentioned are typical for Herradura, but honestly, there isn't a significant difference compared to the regular Reposado. Similar to the aroma, the taste is also stronger, but at the same proof, it's not more potent, and I believe this is where the primary distinction is lost. If only higher proof tequilas were more accessible. I was eager to acquire this as a replacement for my regular Reposado, but considering the higher cost and difficulty in finding it, I anticipated at least some noticeable difference. Instead, I'm left with a quality tequila regardless, enjoyable both on the rocks and in a margarita, but at a price point that warrants more serious consideration. Relax, it's just a liquor, no need to be so high and mighty.

About this bottle
Herradura, established in 1870 by Félix López, is among the longest-standing tequila producers. The distillery operates at Hacienda de San José del Refugio in Amatitán, a town often recognized as tequila's birthplace. The Double Barrel Reposado spends 11 months in oak barrels, followed by an additional month in a toasted oak barrel. Maria Teresa Lara, one of the few female Maestra Tequileras, oversees the traditional production process.

Sampling the "King of Kentucky" barrel release, and it's quite good. The KoK barrels impart a bit of smoke and some sweetness, yet it remains light and somewhat delicate. Exceptionally smooth, with prominent vanilla notes, classic Herradura agave characteristics, and warmth. An amazing value.
A smooth tequila for sipping, comparable to a fine rye whiskey while still retaining its tequila character.
Nose: Sweet spring grass, vanilla Taste: Barrel-aged pear Finish: Dry yet pleasantly sweet
Distinctive Bourbon character. My preferred choice for sipping.
Very pleasant and delicious, extremely smooth.
