My initial encounter with a spirit from Boann Distillery was this Cognac Cask matured bottling, The Whistler Dark Symphony. The presentation of the bottle is truly remarkable, very visually appealing. The narrative behind "The Whistler" involves an elderly gentleman who frequented the distillery grounds, serenading himself with tunes while enjoying a dram. It's bottled at an unusual 43.14% ABV. On the nose, I detect creamy vanilla notes, likely from the grain whiskey. There's also sawdust, cake, grapefruit, and cinnamon. White chocolate and coffee with milk, along with dulce de leche and marshmallows, are also present. The palate is exceptionally creamy, with notes of marshmallows and a pleasing sweet pepper. S'mores and meringue come through, followed by peach halves in syrup and cognac. It's genuinely delightful. The aftertaste consists of marshmallows, spices, grain whiskey, and a herbal pepper. In summary, this was an outstanding Irish whiskey, providing ample flavor and aroma to be thoroughly enjoyable. The cognac cask has clearly elevated the entire profile, making my first experience with this brand quite pleasant. I award it a well-earned 90 out of 100.

This offering from The Whistler lives up to expectations. It has notes of cinnamon, toffee, and coffee, delivering a deep, full flavor. However, don't get too attached; this one has a strong kick. It will surprise you! Great value for the cost.
