About this bottle

The Whistler Calvados Cask Finish is a blended whiskey created through triple distillation, comprising 35% single malt and 65% grain whiskeys. Both types of whiskey mature independently in ex-bourbon barrels for four years. Subsequently, they are combined and undergo a 15-month finishing period in French oak casks that previously held 10-year-old Calvados from Chateau du Breuil. This whiskey is bottled at 43% ABV, without chill-filtration or added caramel.

This marks my third tasting of The Whistler expressions, and none have disappointed. While none have been exceptional yet, all are worth sampling. I appreciate the innovation from Boann Distillery and their dedication to exploring new approaches. Boann Distillery excels at using unconventional methods to impart unique characteristics to their spirits. As a brewery as well, the distillery actively seeks out premium bourbon, brandy, and wine casks for their aging processes. The Whistler Calvados Cask Finish Irish Whiskey is crafted by Boann Distillery in Meath, Ireland. This whiskey undergoes triple distillation for enhanced smoothness and is a blend of 35% Irish malt and 65% grain whiskies. It is then aged for four years in former bourbon casks before being finished or 'married' for 15 months in ex-Calvados Casks from Normandy. The Whistler Calvados Cask Finish is bottled at 43% ABV and has no age statement. Appearance: Yellow Gold Nose: Exceptionally fruity with abundant notes of pomegranate, apricot, apple, fruit nectar, cinnamon, and subtle undertones of vanilla. The palate is very smooth with notes of vanilla, more apple, ripe pears, and a sweetness reminiscent of bourbon. The finish is moderately long, featuring additional apple notes while retaining its creaminess. The sweetness eventually gives way to some grain-like notes.

Sidney Campbell 3.5

It's not bad, but I don't think it has as much impact compared to the Blue Note and P.X. In many respects, it tastes like a lighter bourbon. Since I'm unfamiliar with calvados, I can't identify specific notes.

Kaylie Lancaster 5.0

Excellent for sipping! Flowers and apple notes create a very pleasant experience. Well-rounded, no alcohol burn, delicate scent, and a smooth medium-to-long finish. Certainly one of the finest I've tried for this price.

Tiara Chao 3.3

I'd place this on par with Teeling small batch. For the price, I would opt for Teeling next time and save $10!

Marilyn Harrington 3.5

Aroma is very subtle, with soft fruits, mineral notes, sweetness, roundness, and floral hints.

Sarai Ahmed 4.5

A pleasant, easy-drinking spirit with prominent fruit notes.
