Tequila Rejón Reposado

While searching for a more affordable, high-quality Tequila without additives, I discovered Tequila Rejon. They offer a Blanco, Reposado, and Extra Anejo, all bottled at 44% ABV. I have only sampled the Reposado, and I was immediately impressed. NOM 1531: Destilería Rivesca, S.A. De C.V. Location: Amatitan, Jalisco. Region: Jalisco (Los Valles). Reposado: "100% Tequilana Weber blue agave, aged for 2 to 11 months in white oak barrels of both American and French origin." Nose: The oak presence is very subtle yet noticeable. The agave is the true star, offering an earthy profile with hints of green pepper and light citrus. I could spend a long time just enjoying the aroma. Palate: Much of the nose carries over to the palate, complemented by a light, honeyed sweetness that balances the earthy agave. Despite the higher ABV compared to the typical 40% for tequila, there is no harshness, allowing the agave's terroir to be the primary focus. An exceptional value for the price, and I highly recommend trying it. I plan to sample the Extra Anejo next.

I'm uncertain about my current impression. The aroma is quite pungent, honestly. There's an oakiness, some light caramel, but predominantly a strong vegetal agave flavor, more like fresh agave than roasted. I also detect an almost metallic, rust-like taste. I'll check back in a week to see if my thoughts evolve.
