Sons of Erin Irish Whiskey

A quality Irish whiskey bottled locally in Kansas City, MO. The local distiller is developing his own Irish-style whiskey but needs time to age his current stock, having begun operations in 2016. (He is currently producing vodka, gin, and poitin for immediate revenue.) He sourced whiskey directly from Ireland for sale or blending. Overcoming regulatory hurdles seemed impossible until a collaboration with a key figure in the Irish Whiskey Renaissance was revealed, which then cleared the path. My last visit to the distillery was nearly three years ago, and I recall it was mentioned that the imported Irish whiskey is rested in new barrels before bottling. This is a satisfying drink. The aroma and taste deliver what you'd expect from a good Irish whiskey, featuring notes of apple and pear, a hint of floral character, a touch of vanilla, minimal sweetness, and just enough burn to confirm it's whiskey.

Sweeter than typical for an Irish whiskey. I appreciate that it's bottled at 45% ABV rather than the usual meager 40%. Produced in Kansas City, MO, but I'm too indolent to investigate further and don't particularly care, though I do wonder about its origin.

Dry, but in a pleasant way. A little vanilla at the beginning, with a nice apple/pear note at the end. I would have preferred it a bit sweeter, but it's still good.

A typical character. It begins with heat, followed by floral and pear notes on the nose, with a slight fruitiness. The taste is smooth, leading to a medium finish. Decent for a single pot Irish spirit.

Subtle sweetness and a light body. It's not bad, but it's not very complex. A simple drink if that's your preference.

A smooth whiskey that doesn't deliver the harsh impact usually associated with spirits.
