About this bottle

SelvaRey Rum, whose name means "king of the jungle" and is represented by a gorilla on its label, is the creation of Francisco “Don Pancho” Fernandez, a former Havana Club master blender and Cuban Minister of Rum. This rum is a composition of 5-year-old spirits from copper column-stills. It is aged in former bourbon casks and infused with locally sourced chocolate, rather than using cocoa-flavored syrup.

Rocky Mcdonough 4.0

The label mentions a "hint" of chocolate, but the nose presents more than just a hint. It's a wonderful aroma, though quite noticeable. However, it doesn't mask other typical rum scents; there's a pleasant funk present. The palate is smooth, with a touch of wood spice towards the end. It's definitely sweet, but not excessively so. Any worries about this being a cheap, overly sweet concoction are immediately dispelled; it's well-balanced and can be enjoyed neat. The chocolate flavor is deep and lingers. You must enjoy chocolate to appreciate this rum, but if you don't, you likely have other issues. Kudos to the creator and their team. 12/31/17

Do you enjoy Hershey's Chocolate Syrup? I do! And this smells exactly like it. The taste is a flawless fusion of mild rum and Hershey chocolate, without being excessively sweet. The color is a deep amber-brown. It's a very smooth beverage; a few drops of water transform it into a silky-smooth consistency. Whether sipped neat or mixed, this one is a great choice. Interestingly, it costs $5 USD more than the coconut variant. Ratings are based on drinking it neat.

A pleasant, sweet, and smooth beverage. I suspect it would be even better when mixed.
