Bull City Bourbon Club pick Batch No. 02; Bottle No. 070 Sourced from Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Panama Aged in used bourbon barrels Blended by Phenomenal Spirits Age 10 years 61.7% abv; 123.4 proof Opened 10 months Nose - Burnt orange, honey, caramel, molasses, cinnamon, clove, and strong alcohol. Palate - Spicy gingerbread, molasses, orange blossom honey, cinnamon bun, allspice, clove, and black pepper. Finish is long with strong oak and alcohol spice, dry honey, cocoa, cinnamon, and orange peel. I'm not familiar with rum, but when my club does a cask strength pick for $65, it's an immediate purchase. This rum is blended by Phenomenal Spirits, who have been doing good things with RY3 and are very cooperative with clubs for private picks. If you look through a store for aged rum, you'll mostly find 40% or 43% for $30-50 from major producers. I think this is a bargain at this price. There are other 10-year picks available in the state, in addition to the occasional 15-year cask strength for $80. These are good starting points for bourbon drinkers because they are aged in used bourbon barrels and have significant oak influence.
