A rich, small-batch, aged Caribbean Rum, a joint venture between Barbados' Foursquare, matured in American white oak, and Gray's Distillery of Mauritius, matured in French limousine oak and Cognac barrels. It is then blended in ex-bourbon casks and bottled at 43% ABV by Foursquare. It begins with a bouquet of buttery oak, marmalade on toast, chocolate truffle, and dried berries; its rich body reveals notes of chocolate, oak, butterscotch, and ginger; culminating in a balanced, moderately long finish with hints of sweet pepper, anise, oak, juicy raspberry, orange oil, and caraway. About this bottle
Equiano Rum is a blended African-Caribbean rum crafted from 100% molasses sourced from two distilleries: Gray's in Mauritius and Foursquare in Barbados. The rum from Gray's was aged for ten years in French Limousin and ex-cognac casks, while the Foursquare rum, a blend of column and pot still distillates, matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels. This bottling contains no added colorants, spices, additives, or sugar. The rum is named in honor of Olaudah Equiano (1745-1797), a Nigerian-born writer, businessman, abolitionist, and freedom advocate who secured his liberty in 1766.

I can certainly detect those Foursquare characteristics, but there's something else present. It has a sweet, spicy, and warm quality, especially for a 43% ABV. The initial taste has a hint of artificiality, but it concludes with subtle sweet notes reminiscent of Smarties.
Excellent. You can trust that this is a high-quality rum, unadulterated in any way, as Richard Seale oversaw the blending and bottling at the Foursquare distillery.
Pleasant spice and warmth that plays on the palate rather than overwhelming it. Rich molasses adds a fantastic caramel taste. Ideal for sipping straight or in an Old Fashioned or Manhattan.
The aroma has notes of banana and spice, with a pleasant hint of band-aid. There are subtle hints of lavender and prominent barrel notes, finishing with a rich toffee flavor. It's slightly hot, but overall a very solid offering.
A very pronounced and pleasant coffee and caramel nose, powerful on the palate, an excellent rum.
