About this bottle

Rhum J.M. Agricole Blanc is made from sugarcane grown on the estate, which is harvested in the spring after a full year of growth. Within an hour of harvesting, the freshly pressed sugarcane juice undergoes natural fermentation for 36 to 48 hours. The fermented juice is then distilled in a copper column still to 70% alcohol by volume. Following distillation, the rum rests for at least three months in stainless steel tanks before being diluted to bottling strength with mineral-rich water from the estate's volcanic springs.

Clear. Lively and welcoming scents of underripe pineapple, mango, confectioners' sugar, dried strawberry, orange zest, tart cherry, cocoa, and white pepper. Slightly thick texture for being just 80 proof. Many of the tropical notes from the nose transform into more botanical, pine, and mint flavors on the tongue; but the spirit keeps a pleasing fruitiness all the way through. The finish is entirely bubblegum with a few vintage sports cards included. At only $30 per liter, this is easy to enjoy. Especially if you like kirschwasser and collecting sports ephemera from the early digital era.

The unique funkiness on the nose resembles raw corn on the cob with its silk, seeming juicier than molasses-based spirits. The flavor is dominated by anise, finishing with menthol and an intriguing oddity that sometimes smells like gasoline and other times like a foam pool float. Long, spicy finish!

Quite enjoyable. It possesses a more herbal quality than typically expected from rum, but in a very pleasing manner. This inspires me to explore more aged rhum agricole varieties.

Samuel Silver 4.5

Green. Grassy, vegetal—like bell pepper. Sweet mint. Cucumber-like. Very grassy. Lingering sweetness.
