About this bottle

Avuá Cachaça Amburana, named after indigenous South American trees, originates from the single-estate sugarcane fields of Fazenda da Quinta, a family-run farm situated approximately four hours north of Rio de Janeiro. The sugarcane is hand-cut and processed using a waterwheel to extract its juice, which is fermented for under 24 hours with airborne wild yeasts before being distilled in an alembic copper pot still. The cachaça is then aged for as long as two years in Amburana wood casks.

Nathaniel Hurt 4.0

An intense, artisanal single-source Cachaça produced by Katia Espírito Santo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is made using hand-harvested sugarcane, which is crushed with a waterwheel to extract the juice. The juice is fermented for under 24 hours using wild airborne yeasts and distilled in a copper pot still. The cachaça ages for up to 2 years in Amburana wood barrels. It presents an aromatic beginning with notes of dark fruits & baking spices; a fruity & spicy middle phase adds notes of black cherry, caraway, cardamom, anise, allspice, nutmeg & hay; culminating in a warm & earthy finish with notes of crème brûlée, citrus zest, anise & wood. Absolutely incredible stuff. Far superior to your average cachaca. The aroma is warm and inviting, with flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, chocolate, and subtle citrus like orange. What makes it even better is that this was a gift from a manager, and we all know free alcohol tastes even sweeter.

Enjoying a Cachaça tasting with some friends. My first encounter with this wonderful spirit. I attempted to jot down my impressions as I sampled. Warm, fresh, subtly sweet, fruity (melon?), spicy and woody, with a mild finish.

Kristie Brannon 2.5

One of the most distinctive spirits I have ever encountered. Intensely nutty and oily. I'm giving it a lower score because it's not to my personal taste, but this could be an excellent cachaca, and I wouldn't be able to say for sure.

Gussie Wiley 4.8

Remarkably herbal and tropical fruit minerality from caraway, tangerine, mango, and guava. It evokes the sensation of something from the Amazon River.

This cachaça is truly revolutionary. I dare you to take your first taste without exclaiming "whoa!" aloud.
