Pusser's Rum 15 Year (Guyana)

The nose is intense and layered. Initially, there's a fruit note, reminiscent of a summer farmer's market, followed by the rich scent of handmade chewy caramels with walnuts. Over time, the aroma evolves, revealing raisins and figs. A green, woody scent emerges, like freshly cut, unseasoned logs. First taste brings caramel, burnt brown sugar, orange zest, and a pleasant warmth. It's not excessively sweet, possessing a richness similar to Amontillado or a medium-sweet sherry. Even while sipping, the aroma is captivating. It has a fruit juice quality I've previously encountered only in Irish whiskey and some Speyside Scotches. Oak tannins provide a pleasing bitterness and add depth with vanilla and toasted oak notes. The finish mirrors the caramelized sugar top of crème brulee, with charred sugar and caramel. Just after swallowing, a perfectly ripe banana flavor lingers. This doesn't overwhelm with baking spices, though hints of allspice and ginger are present. I read a description calling this the "single malt of rums," and I concur. It doesn't rely on strong molasses or overpowering spice; instead, it's balanced with abundant fruit, oak, and even malt characteristics. For someone transitioning from whisky to rum, this feels familiar yet refreshingly distinct. If it were slightly higher in proof, it would be nearly flawless. 95/100

The aroma is rich and intricate, featuring molasses and raisins, plus a hard-to-define savory note that carries into the palate, tasting of mincemeat. This is a superb sipping rum; it's rich yet light-bodied with a moderately long finish.

A respectable rum. Not as excellent as previous versions of Pussers. It seems somewhat dull compared to scotch. I won't be purchasing it again.

Sweet style rum, pleasant floral taste and a slight alcoholic burn at the end.
