Established in 1929, the Ron Cartavio distillery was taken over by the Peruvian government in 1968. This rum, created in both copper pot and column stills, is a blend of spirits with an average age of 18 years, matured in Slovenian and other oak. It presents a clear, rosy topaz hue and shows substantial legs.

The 12-year expression is likely one of the smoothest in its age category, in my opinion. Regarding the XO: Appearance: Copper, dark, dense. Nose: Spicy wood, banana, dried fruit, some vanilla. Taste: What you smell is what you taste; the banana is likely the most exotic note. Overall, it's an amazing rum, fantastic, delicious, with excellent packaging and presentation.
I had this a few days ago after a significant break. From the initial taste, I recalled how good this was. The aroma presented a caramel note that carried through to the taste. I wish it were a bit higher in rating, but overall, it's a pleasant rum, easy to drink, and enjoyable.
Enjoying this rum in Lima, Peru. A very pleasant sipping rum. Slightly sweet with brown sugar and molasses, along with complexities of raisins and spice.
A nice sweetness, with notes of oak, vanilla, and caramel. The taste lingers on the palate for a considerable time. There's a slight alcoholic burn at the back of the throat.
It needs about 15 minutes to rest in the glass for its full flavor profile to emerge.
Very sweet, low proof. Doesn't seem worth the higher price.
