About this bottle

This Joven mezcal is crafted from 100% agave, combining Espadín from Oaxaca and Tobalá from Puebla. The agave is roasted in a stone pit and then distilled in a copper pot still. It is bottled at 80 proof.

I believe the consensus is overly critical of this spirit. It's accessible, has a low proof, and is suitable for beginners. Comparable to a par 3 in golf; sometimes you just want to play with a single club. I find no fault with this pour. It has a character that is almost like grappa.

If you want to grasp the essence of what mezcal is, this is it. In terms of flavor, it's a rather mellow or even commercial mezcal. It also feels quite thick, giving it a very inexpensive impression. Verdict: commercial and barely flavorful.

Jackie Tracy 3.0

A satisfactory mezcal. Moderate smokiness complemented by a touch of sweet citrus and minerality, likely from the Tobala. It's fairly light on the palate, possibly due to the lower alcohol content, making it a gentle mezcal to sip.

Stefan Arias 4.5

- Smell - Smoke and meat - Taste - Smoke, salt - Aftertaste - Very smooth, no harshness at all throughout, surprisingly pleasing and savory - Overall - Fantastic - could enjoy this with many foods and just generally a lot

Seymour Clawson 3.0

This mezcal has a mild flavor. I prefer mine with more smoke and taste. I haven't tried it in mixed drinks yet. Smell: Fruit and Clay Flavor: Light, Fruit, Mineral Aftertaste: Faint smoke and a bitter note

Leland Gamboa 4.3

It is clear in appearance. The aroma consists of succulent vegetative notes. The flavor has mild smoke, earthiness, and savory vegetable. It has a light-to-medium body and a mostly-dry finish. RJT
