Koch el Mezcal Espadín

Upon first smelling this, you get one main note - Rubber! Think of a freshly paved road, and that's essentially the scent. Once it opens up, you then detect clay, mesquite wood ash, and roasted agave. The taste is similar, with strong rubber notes and lots of smoke, followed by a vegetal component/roasted agave, and mineral notes. It would be top-shelf, but what holds it back is its high alcohol content. At times it's manageable, and other times it becomes so potent it can numb you.

This is a fantastic mezcal. It presents the expected traditional qualities of an Espadín Joven, but the standout characteristic of this particular bottling is its sweet fruit notes, which diminish the alcohol taste found in beginner mezcals. Prior to sampling this, I considered Mezcal Union to be a superb initial option for mezcal novices, but this Koch El now clearly assumes the top position as the finest gateway into the mezcal realm.

This is a top-notch artisanal mezcal. It features delicate herbal and coconut characteristics. Consider sampling it when you're out and about seeking a premium mezcal!

This is a really nice Mezcal for the cost. It has a pleasant, bright citrus aroma with a hint of smoke. The taste shifts 180 degrees into savory, vegetal notes. A great experience.
