About this bottle

Aquilino García López crafts this mezcal using wild-harvested tobalá from the Highlands near the Quichapa River source, at approximately 6000 feet elevation. Vago Tobalá is produced using traditional methods at López's palenque in Candelaria Yegolé, Oaxaca, including earthen-ovens for cooking agave, pinewood fermentation-vats, and a 200-liter copper-still. The mezcal rests in steel tanks for three months before being bottled by hand.

Johnathon Joshi 5.0

This Mezcal has a very unique profile. Intricate and spicy. Not sweet. I wish I could recall the cost. I believe it was comparable to a respectable single malt. Likely it was less expensive. Like a fine whiskey, I consume this neat or with a small amount of water. I have discovered that sweetness

Emilia Mccray 4.0

Herbal aroma, with agave, grapes, grass, pear, peppercorns, melon, and just a faint hint of smoke. Sweet on the palate, peppery, melon, a bit more smoke, green notes, earth, and char. Finish of charred wood.

Bo Boyle

$119 at K&L Didn't notice much difference between the blue and red labels. Both are good but plain, smooth, and lack uniqueness.

Marcos Dominguez 5.0

Shared with a friend at her aunt's house. She found it for $50. Delicious, subtly smoky, and sweet!

Dexter Thayer 4.0

Aroma of gasoline, smoke, and rubber, with a quick, tart taste. It goes down exceptionally smoothly, finishing with a very short, sharp burn.

Ursula Gross 4.5

2017. Nose: Smoky burnt rubber. Taste: Sweet, leather, vegetal.
