About this bottle

Mezcal Vago Tepeztate is produced by mezcalero Aquilino García López using the tepeztate agave, a wild variety found in the hills around his Oaxaca ranch in the Yegoleé region, which requires 12 to 15 years to mature. Due to the scarcity of mature wild tepeztate, this mezcal is made in limited quantities, typically fewer than 500 bottles. The harvested piñas are crushed using a traditional tahona, fermented in open-air pinewood vats with ambient yeasts, and then distilled twice in a copper alembic still before manual bottling.

Waylon Reddy 5.0

Intense vegetal notes on the nose and palate. Classic agave, olives, pimentos, and cucumber. A lingering, slightly salty finish. Wonderful!

Sonya Angeles 4.0

Truly fantastic! Excellent aroma, rich mouthfeel, and a satisfying conclusion. More akin to food than a drink.
