El Jolgorio Espadín Mezcal

Edition 08: / Harvest: 2006 / 47.8% ABV Rafael Méndez Cruz This espadin, according to the label, was harvested when 10 years old. Further investigation indicates this edition used wild angustifolia agave cultivated as a capon. This involves cutting the flowering stalk of the pina before the quiote emerges, concentrating sugars in the pina. It's also said this edition was aged in glass for 10 years post-distillation, leading to oxidation and a harmonious blend of flavors. Aromas include vanilla, blueberries, grilled asparagus, and a touch of wintergreen. The flavor is more intense, featuring notes of roasted agave, raw broccoli, vanilla, herbs, and wintergreen over a buttery caramel base. Minty caramel notes carry into the medium finish with a hint of black pepper and pine. Remarkably smooth for its near 48% alcohol content. Overall, an outstanding espadin and a top example of this commonly used agave.

Great taste and very easy to drink. Smoke and pepper are present in good measure. Hints of vegetables add more depth. A more untamed version.

Well-rounded, earthy, smoky, and balanced. Suitable for sipping on special occasions.

The eleven years aged in glass is exceptionally smooth and well-rounded.

Moderate smoke, very smooth, with a great flavor of roasted agave.

The nose has green bell peppers, and the mid-palate features bubblegum.
