El Jolgorio Cuixe Mezcal

Edition: 13, Harvest 2016, 47%ABV Ignacio Parada Smells of ashtray and paint thinner with some subtle roasted vegetables trying to emerge but keeps being drowned out by alcohol fumes. The taste is a little better with earthy vegetable notes, subtle tropical fruits, and clay-like minerality, but then the finish ruins it again. It's reminiscent of menthol cigarettes along with a harsh bitterness. This is by far the worst EJ bottle I've had. For the money I spent, I hope it improves with time, but that means I have to drink it to get there.

Consistently herbal throughout. Slightly smoky and distinctive. This Mezcal might seem a bit challenging due to the unique taste imparted by the use of Karwinskis Agave, which creates a contrast. I have great admiration for this Mezcal and the Cortes family.

Subtle earthy notes with a hint of clay. A very faint wisp of smoke. While I haven't sampled many high-end mezcals, this is the finest one I've tried. It's light and refined.

Refreshing yet wonderfully smoky and earthy. A young spirit that is very complex. Undoubtedly my top mezcal choice.

An earthy scent I can't quite place, with a sweet and salty profile. Rated 93.

It's smoky and woody with a substantial mouthfeel.
