Vago Mezcal Espadín by Emigdio Jarquín Ramirez (50.7% ABV) NOM-O188X An elegant Mezcal from companions Judah Kuper & Dylan Sloan, with assistance from Judah’s father-in-law, Aquilino Garcia Lopez, founders of Mezcal Vago in Oaxaca, Mexico. Emigdio Jarquín Ramirez produces artisan Spirits outside of Miahuatlán de Porfirio Diaz, handmade from locally grown Espadín agave that has been slow-roasted and naturally fermented, combined with natural mineral water before being bottled at 50.7% ABV. It begins aromatically with notes of agave, peppers, wildflowers, and earthy minerality; while a bold character adds notes of roasted agave, yucca, plantains, cilantro, and a hint of wild honey; leading to a balanced conclusion of medium length with notes of pepper and coriander. Received this mezcal sample from my Flaviar box. I'm having some difficulty identifying this one accurately, so this is labeled: Mezcal vago espadin de emigdio. It has a 50.1% ABV. I tried it neat. On the nose, it's smoky, earthy, and spicy with notes of pepper. On the palate, I detect spice, pepper, earthy notes, and coriander. It leaves a somewhat hot sensation at the back of my throat.

Initial tasting is comparable to del maguey vida. Quite unremarkable.
