Mezcal Fandango

This bottle was bought from the government liquor store on Commercial Drive in Vancouver. It was the least expensive option, around $50 plus tax, Canadian. I poured one ounce into a Glencairn glass, without chilling or any other preparation. The nose has smoky, vegetal, and herbal characteristics. Add some citrus to that nose impression, and that's what you get. I haven't had mezcal in at least ten years, so I'm okay with this. I noticed some barrel-aged mezcal in a cabinet at the store, but similar to tequila, I think I prefer the unaged version. I enjoy barrel-aged whiskey and certain beer styles, but I also appreciate the herbal quality of agave spirits, and I feel barrel aging diminishes that. Anyway, this bottle will last me a while. I'm not aiming to become a mezcal expert. I just want some variety in my liquor cabinet.

It's incredibly smooth, like a romantic encounter with Enrique Iglesias. It goes down easily; it's sweet, but you won't detect it. I can't say it's particularly memorable. It's an acceptable mezcal, but I wouldn't suggest it. However, it's inexpensive enough to try. You'll certainly get your money's worth of good times.

It has a sweet, spicy, and citrus core with a full body. Not particularly smoky. A great choice for those new to Mezcal.

Lacking.....considerably. Minimal smoke, not much on the finish.

Pleasant, smoky, smooth.
