Lizzie Garibay 2.8

Aroma: Faint smoke, earthy scent, subtle pine needles, and light oak. Taste: A semi-sweet start with caramel and vanilla notes over light smoky malt. Fruity hints (apple, pear, white grape) emerge, along with a slight coastal character. The texture is neutral, and the whisky doesn't show significant legs. Finish: A brief finish with fruitiness fading into smoke and a touch of brine. This was a small sample at a pop-up tasting during a whisky festival. The small plastic cup used was detrimental to a proper tasting experience. McHenry distillery, established in 2013, is noted as Australia's southernmost distillery. Its location in a unique micro-climate allows for the use of larger casks and longer aging periods. This non-age-statement whisky uses imported peated Scotch malt. While pleasant, it's not particularly outstanding. Like their 10-year-old single malt tasted at the same event, I'd like to try it again under better conditions. Rating: 79/100 (2.75 stars)
