This is a cask strength bourbon barrel aged tequila, legally called "KY Azul". It wonderfully combines the smoothness and floral notes of agave with the rye spice and oak presence from the bourbon barrel. Being cask strength, it requires sipping. While I've encountered similar agave spirits aged in bourbon barrels, this remains my favorite due to its unique complexity. Perhaps the rye is too much for me, or it overpowers the agave, but that's just my perspective. 4.5/5 - It's excellent, though the cask strength can be overwhelming. A lower proof might have been ideal.

Initially, you encounter the vanilla and caramel notes common in many whiskies, with the agave emerging later. Generally, it presents light caramel, vanilla, roasted agave, lime, and hay. As the finish arrives, bolder oak, hay, cinnamon, and mineral notes become apparent. This is certainly an unusual agave spirit. Not unpleasant, but not as conventional as standard Mexican tequila. There are discernible bourbon influences from the barrel, but they aren't overpowering, and I personally appreciated the higher proof. It might not appeal to everyone, but I thoroughly enjoyed the bottles.
