About this bottle

Mayalen Borrego, meaning "lamb" in Spanish, is an organic mezcal handcrafted from wild cupreata agave. The agave plants, harvested from hillsides accessible only by foot and requiring donkeys for transport, take seven years to mature. The mezcal is cooked for three days in an earthen stone oven, and the juice is extracted using a tahona wheel. Fermentation occurs naturally for about a week in aged wooden barrels, followed by triple distillation in a wood-fired copper still with a lamb leg, giving it its name. This joven mezcal is produced by Erdini S.A. de C.V. and bottled at 49% ABV.

Wow. The aroma is fantastic. Sweet smell followed by a wonderfully smooth honey smoke flavor, finishing with a slight kick. Absolutely wonderful!

Jayden Rosas 4.0

Amazing. Fruity on the palate. Less smoky than other mezcals I've sampled. The finish lingers for a substantial time. There's a certain funkiness present. Exceptionally good.

Scarlet Rhodes 5.0

This is exceptionally good, achieving a wonderful harmony of smoke, sweetness, and spice.

Cecile Paul 4.5

Salty and savory with a hint of cumin. Truly outstanding, 95 points.
