About this bottle

Located in Vermont's Green Mountains, Mad River Distillery draws its name from the valley where it resides. The rye is crafted from organic rye and rye malt cultivated locally. They also highlight that their German-made copper still is a point of pride.

The listed tasting notes for this are ridiculous. Fruit? What fruit? All I taste is coffee, cocoa, and spice! Absolutely fantastic. My boyfriend, who doesn't drink coffee, said it tasted like burnt sticks.

Staci Mccall 3.0

Not terrible for a young rye. Surprisingly chocolatey. While it's not my go-to sipping rye, it's fantastic in cocktails, where I prefer a bolder, more grain-focused spirit...

William Coughlin 3.8

The malted rye grains give this a very chocolatey aroma. The palate is chocolate, coffee, and rye. It's relatively one-dimensional, but an extremely interesting and pleasing dimension.

Mariela Vann 2.0

I considered saving it all for others to try; it brings paint thinner to mind. I'm not giving it one star because the alcohol wasn't harsh and it was drinkable, just not my preference.

Juana Moss 3.8

Warm and zesty, with hints of chocolate malt - I enjoy it. A bit earthy, and its smoothness suggests youth, but the intensified spiciness compensates for that.

Irvin Pryor 2.0

On the nose: Rye, Grass, Leather, Pepper. On the palate: Strong Rye Spice, Leather, Grass, Dirt, Pepper, a little Chocolate.
