Smooth Ambler Yearling

A fantastic distillery experience and tour took place in West Virginia, at one of the more established and respected participants in the craft/independent distillery movement. The Yearling has a pleasant caramel core and has already absorbed notable oak characteristics from the barrels. It competes well with, and bears a resemblance to, Maker's Mark. As the name suggests, it still displays its youth. The price is steep for a half-bottle, but I'm cheering for this company (the other offerings are also worth sampling)!

I always appreciate discovering a whiskey with a distinct flavor profile. This one seems subdued, judging by its color and bottling. The aroma has a faint pickle juice quality, and the taste offers fennel and honey mustard. While it sounds odd, it's genuinely pleasing.

I'm a fan of the entire Smooth Ambler range, and this one lives up to expectations.

Considering its age, it has a remarkable flavor.

Abundant corn presence, and a bit immature for my preference.

Gentle on the lips with a peppery sensation on the tongue.
