About this bottle

Woodford Reserve's Master Collection is a limited-edition "experimental" line that frequently explores distinct mash bills and/or cask finishes. For this particular expression, they adopted a Scottish approach by creating a 100% malted barley whisky. In a manner similar to many Scotches, it matures in used bourbon barrels.

Brody Tuttle 1.0

The aroma immediately hits you with ethanol, which isn't a good sign - this whisky is young. Beneath the cleaning product scent, there are some grassy, hay notes. On the palate, it's sweet at first, but unsophisticated. A huge alcohol burn follows, with slight hints of honey and green notes (and, strangely, bubblegum on the aroma just before the liquid touches the palate). The finish is dry and slightly bitter (bitter melon?) with a fruity gum note eventually. Frankly, I struggle to see how this deviates so much from a typical Single Malt Whisky profile. It's 100% malted barley, aged in refill barrels. It's not just the youth; there's simply a lack of refinement here. Have the producers ever tasted single malt whisky?

Gilda Haddad 3.0

A rather smooth single malt but lacking in deep complexity. It presents a predominantly peaty flavor upfront with a mild honey finish.

Libby Barth 4.0

Smooth flavor. A honey-like finish. It's quite distinctive. Good for sipping.

Opal Jacobs 2.3

Starts creamy, then shifts to black pepper with an oak finish.

Kris Moe 3.5

The palate starts with butterscotch and finishes with spice.

Samuel Hale

Excellent flavor with a smooth palate.
