Poitín, a spirit with centuries of history, was driven underground in the 17th century to evade taxation and was legalized again in 1997. This particular poitín is crafted from local malted barley and presented at 40% alcohol by volume. Its name draws from the idiom "mad as a March hare," referencing the vigorous behavior of hares during their March mating season, which can be mirrored by an excited state after consuming too much poitín.
