Tierra de Agaves Distillery crafts Lunazul Primero Cristalino, a tequila made entirely from 100% blue agave. The estate-grown agave, cultivated just outside Tequila, Jalisco, has a lineage tracing back to 1758. Harvested between seven and nine years of age, the agaves are cooked for one day before being shredded to extract their juices. Following fermentation with a unique Lunazul yeast, the tequila undergoes double distillation in small batches and matures for 18 months in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels. An eight-time filtration process removes the color, resulting in an "añejo claro." (Note: The brand's packaging and name changed from Primero to Primero Cristalino in early 2024. SRP $37.99).

This spirit appears to have been excessively filtered, removing its color and most of its aged agave character. There's a hint of aged cooked agave, but it's very subtle. It would serve as a good introduction to tequila for vodka drinkers. I'm fortunate I bought it on sale.

Surprisingly smooth and slightly vodka-like tequila. Bought a bottle for a friend who only drinks clear tequila, and we were not disappointed.
